The movie starts off with Leopold at the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge and he sees a strange man taking pictures and laughing every time the man making a speech says "erection". He later sees the same man at his party where he has to decide a wife. Leopold follows the man back to the Brooklyn Bridge where they both fall off and end up in the 21st century.
The mystery man's name is Stuart and Stuart takes an unconscious Leopold back to his apartment. In the morning Leopold does not believe that he has traveled to the future when Stuart tells him. Stuart tells him that he can go back to his time in a week when the temporal portal opens again. Stuart takes his dog out but is harmed when the elevator does not work. It doesn't work because Leopold is the person who invents the elevator and has yet to make them in his own time. Leopold meets Kate, Stuart's ex-girlfriend, when she come to the apartment looking for something. She asks that he takes the dog out. When he comes back he encounters Kate's brother and they become friends. Kate's brother is an actor and believes that Leopold is also an actor staying in his role. Kate and Leopold have a date but end up arguing. Stuart gets out of the mental hospital, the doctors thought that he was crazy when he talked about time travel, and takes Leopold back to his time before the party. Stuart goes back and looks at his pictures, he notices that Kate is in them. He tells Kate. She realizes that she loves Leopold and jumps off the bridge and she and Leopold get engaged. I liked how the elevators did not work, it shows that things change when you take someone out of the past who has yet to do something. I find it interesting that the elevators even existed in the present since Leopold hadn't invented them yet but they were there.

The story starts off with a man named Conger talking to a man called Speaker. Speaker tells Conger that he has the opportunity to be free of prison if he hunts down and kills someone. They relocate, with the help of a flying car, to the First Church where they collect the skull of the man that Conger is supposed to kill. They tell Conger that all he has to do is go back in time and kill the man who started the current religion that makes no sense. They send him back with the help of a time machine that looked like a crystal cage.
Conger's first time jump was a few years after Founder gave his small speech. He appeared in front of a library, he asks for newspapers from the past year using few words because he is unfamiliar with how the people talked in this time. Conger finds out that the Founder made an unlicensed demonstration during the second of December of 1960. As he was leaving the library a woman gave him a funny look. Conger's second jump brought him to November of 1960. He spends his days talking to the locals. He forgets that people in the past follow a 12-month calendar and almost misses his chance to see the Founder speak. He goes to the time machine and grabs the skull, he examines it carefully and he realizes that he is Founder. He goes out to the gathered people and says "I have an odd paradox for you. Those who take lives will lose their own. Those who kill, will die. But he who gives his own life away will live again!" Conger had realized that he would still be alive even when he dies. He is taken away by the police and that is the end. I thought that Conger's way of thinking was very interesting. He realized that he was going to die but then live again at the time when he goes to the library, disappear, then be born again two centuries later. This weekend I watched A Sound of Thunder. The movie starts off with a group of people 65 million years ago, hunting a dinosaur. They can only kill the dinosaur because it is about to die from a volcanic explosion, they are only allowed to change past events to a certain degree. The weapons that they are using can only be shot if the leader shoots first, this a safety feature so the guests do not shoot anything they are not allowed to. They kill the dinosaur and go back to the present. This trip nothing out of the usual happens.
The next trip is not as normal. The weapons malfunctioned and the guests panicked. One of the guests steps on a butterfly and he brings it back to the present. The present starts to change. Prehistoric plants start to grow out of the cement, animals start to evolve back to what they would have been millions of years ago. The people in charge of the company, Time Safari, take away they technology so they can no longer go back in time. They have to get in contact with the person who designed the time machine, so they can make time right. They woman who designed the time machine tells them they have to find out what is different from their other visits. They find out that the weight of their group was .03 units greater than when they left, they decide that they need to go talk to the clients. On the way to the first client they come across some plants that inject a toxin into the body, the person who is injected is killed by the evolved animals. The first client says that he did not step off the path, he is telling the truth. They have to travel on foot to the other client and they are once again attacked by the animals. They get away alive, reach the man's apartments and find more of the same plants, the toxin attacks the nervous system and drives the person insane. The second client was injected with this toxin and starts shooting at them. The man ends up dying, they find the butterfly on his shoe. They go back to the lab to find it uninhabitable, they have to go to the nearby university where the prototype for the time machine is. They get there and send the leader back with a video of what happened so this sort of thing can never happen again. The leader gives the video to one of the female group members, then disappears. The woman gives the video to her leader, he watches it and goes to speak to the inventor of the time machine. It ends there and we have to come to our own conclusion. Is the company going to be shut down or will it continue on its dangerous mission? From what I have heard the movie is very different from the book. The book seems to focus on the political and language changes, the movie just focuses on the changes in the environment that never happened in the book. The theory for A Sound of Thunder is: if you change anything in the past it will have a significant impact on the future even if what you did seems to have nothing in common with what happened. I do not like this theory, is does not make sense to me. I like the idea of going back and changing something and then seeing the effect of what was done, for example let's say you go back in time and kill Hitler, what will happen to your present? |
